How a good experience can differ. cc @weightshift
Naz Hamid: Our server instead came over and with the traits of a performer, paused to concentrate for a second before reciting the menu by memory. That wasn’t all. At Diner, all tables are covered with a large plain white craft paper of some kind. Upon it, our server sketched out the menu while reciting it, dish-by-dish, ingredient-by-ingredient, beginning with the small plates, larger plates...

Everybody will share.
We live in a society of mini-castles. We build psychological and physical walls to protect ourselves to shelter that which means something to us. Humans have always been embraced compassion and understanding, which is what we call “love”. To deeply understand somebody is to love them. In the future I believe we will love one another, because our thoughts and emotions will be...

The Lytro camera is cool, but...
The new Lytro camera is giving thousands of pixel-peeping camera nerds plenty to wish for, with its amazing pictures doing all the talking. But, as Instagram teaches us, it doesn’t really matter how cool your camera is, but rather, how social it is. Looks like the pictures require a special viewer to actually see them and I think there will be resistance to installing it.

What's the future of search?
Bit.ly thinks it’s realtime and sentiment. For a long time I’ve been interested in sentiment analysis as it applies to our world. Its applications are endless because human emotions pervade everything we do. Google and other traditional search engines deal with knowledge, but Twitter is the closest thing we have to tracking how we feel.

Apple's got one thing wrong: Music.
I exclaimed after Spotify’s launch this past July: Not since Napster have I been this excited about music. And now, that I think it through, it should be: Not since Napster have I been this excited about discovering music. Napster was the reason why I spent sleepless nights during college poring through undiscovered troves of music. It was access to a whole new universe. My life went...

… about how a thin plastic cover for my new MBA 13” makes the top lid sag just a tad too much… … that it’s Apple’s attention to detail that makes me realize that they engineered the lid hinge to be perfectly neutrally resistant, so opening and closing it would be a great experience. And then, the news. People know me as a huge Apple nerd, and that’s...

jayparkinsonmd: “Those who engage in these creative endeavors are the ones who are the future of medicine, Parkinson says. “It’s sad to me that medical schools look for the highest GPAs, the best med/MCAT scores, the people that can brown nose their way to the top,” he says. “Those aren’t good doctors, I’ll tell you that much—it’s the people who are well rounded, who are leaders, who have the...

Everybody should read @katetropa's blog.
Tumblr serves as my daily source of inspiration: It’s a curated bunch of beautiful images, inspiring quotes, and heart-tugging stories. My all-time favorite Tumblr @katetropa’s kateoplis blog. She curates insightful posts about politics, has a great eye for amazing art, and shares stuff-everybody-should-know-about-but-probably-doesn’t. Check her out, it’s worth it.

I'm rooting for Amazon. Here's why.
I’ve always been, and will always be, an Apple fanboy. But, today’s announcement of the Kindle Touch and Fire have gotten me excited. I’ve thought for a while now that Amazon, not Samsung, HTC, RIM, Palm, etc. was the only company that had a chance against Apple in the tablet arena. Why? The ecosystem of streaming services and cloud technology Amazon runs plus the millions of...

I love cooking. Here's one of my favorite recipes.
One of my favorite cookbooks is the Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan. It’s exactly what I like in a cookbook: Well thought-out notes about technique and history. It tells you why you should sauté the onions before putting in the tomatoes, or why milk is essential in making the perfect bolognese. One of my favorite recipes from Marcella’s bible of a book is the...

Google Maps, Bing just one-upped you.
This past weekend, @shirleyc showed me an iPhone app called Gigwalk. I was blown away but how brilliant this move is by Bing. Google uses the now-infamous street view cars equipped with expensive equipment that score the globe, taking pictures of locations. It was cool, and it’s become a staple of my map usage. How can a company compete with a fleet of Google cars? Easy, with people. ...

Information leakage
It’s a shame that these kinds of questions: khoi: Ok difft approach to same question: what apps have the best marketing sites? And who did them? get asked all the time on networks like Twitter, but only one person, @khoi, seems to benefit the most. Quora is an amazing resource of reliable information, but I’m betting that Twitter has significantly more questions asked and...

Wouldn't it be beautiful?
Arthur C. Clarke said: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. Wouldn’t it be beautiful to have a light-filled hideaway, probably somewhere remote and in the middle of nature, made of natural materials like wood and stone, that always was a beautifully comfortable temperature inside? 100 degrees or 20 degrees, you’d never have to fuddle with a...

Top 10 Restaurants Facebook Users Check Into
This says a lot about Facebook users. Living in a cosmopolitan city like NYC I’m shielded from what the rest of “middle America” looks like. So if you’re going to make a product that really succeeds, do you need to cater to people who love eating at Applebee’s?  deleteyourself: 1. Starbucks 2. Buffalo Wild Wings 3. Chili’s 4. Applebee’s 5. McDonald’s 6. IHOP ...

The problem with Yelp
Restaurants are a difficult business to run. The more complex ingredients and menu, the larger margin of error will be. What makes it most difficult is that customers care about consistency in quality of food and service.  People’s taste vary quite a bit. At my office there is a mixture of vegetarians, cheese-allergic, picky eaters, meat lovers, and omnivores. And that’s only a sample...

I've begun to blog
This will become my public journal, where I share my thoughts on things that are interesting me at the moment. Hopefully by articulating my thoughts in typing I will be able to help synthesize and “set straight” the thoughts that are constantly zooming around in my head. Hopefully I can get some sort of dialogue going. We’ll see what happens.

Svpply my Fancy
Why is Svpply so popular? I’ll tell you why I like it. It’s a way for me to see really neat items that I could potentially have if I really wanted to front the money. But in reality, I never make purchases from there because most of the stuff is just too high-brow for my daily life. I wish I had that money but I’m no hedge fund manager. I’ve just started to fancy a new...
